Dave West was born and raised in South Wales and now lives and works in Balbriggan, North County Dublin. He studied at the Carmarthenshire College of Art & Design and recently completed a degree in History of Art.
This Howth show is his 15th solo exhibition. He has exhibited widely in Group Shows including several times with the Royal Hibernian Academy and Royal Ulster Academy. He has also exhibited in the UK with the Royal Society of Oil Painters, The New English Art Club, and the Pastel Society, at which he won the 2013 Schminke Award. This show includes some of his signature harbour paintings in addition to a series of paintings from Catalonia - a rich source of inspiration during the past few years. The show also features a selection from his new series of still life paintings, which the Irish Times Art Critic, Cristín Leach-Hughes in her review of this years RHA annual exhibition, noted: ‘…breathed new life…’ into the genre, adding that this was an artist to ‘…keep an eye out for in the future…’.
