The exhibition New Waves, comes from times reflecting on Ireland's cost. These paintings are quite wild and weathered. They fight to be furiously passionate and tell exciting tales. I have tried to imply through pain, a wonderfully impending sense of doom, as a watch word for all those lost at sea. The boats balance on a knife edge above a vast cavern, water world. Capturing this idea in painting is what draws me back again and again.The sea as a living moving great giant. A sense of freedom and being more alive with endless breath. Ideas of the harbour as safe haven, boats resting on top of a monstrous power.
Leonard Sexton, painting now for 30 years, studied painting under Patrick Graham, one of Ireland’s most renowned contemporary artists. He taught for some years after graduation, before embarking on a career which saw him rapidly develop his own individual style, as well as creating a following which has resulted in several sell-out exhibitions.
